  1. Do not join this gym!
This place *looks* like a good gym and its clean with good equipment. But the management is horrible! I bought a $13 item from them and when I got home, it turned out to be bad. I went back and they refused to take a return because I didn't have the receipt. According to them "I could have bought it somewhere else." Yeah, right, after two years of paying the monthly dues, a middle-aged guy is going to try to scam the place for $13 worth of product. They actually called me a liar to my face! This isn't a community-minded business, it's like Walmart with weights (oh, wait, at Walmart they stand behind their sales). Take your business to a place where they treat you with dignity. 2. Good gym. Terrible indoor cycling coach.
I've been going to Pure for quite some time. It's good place to workout, but I've come to really dislike a few of the employees who use the place as their personal pick-up bar. One in particular as a portly bald guy who teaches "spin" classes. You can see him wondering around the gym nearly every evening hitting on new female members. It's repulsive and sleazy. Be wary of third party billing company! Have seen several complaints by several frustrated former members. You can't even resign from the gym in person. They make you deal with this third party company. Ruined an otherwise good gym experience. (1Austinguy, )

  6. Best fitness gym in Austin!!
Clean, professional and always up to date on the latest equipment and new fitness methods. Everyone there is knowledgeable, helpful and ready to motivate you to work out and reach your potential. Whether you are a professional athlete or a just starting this is the place to get fit and strong. it is also a locally owned and operated gym - if something is wrong you can find out how to fix it through the excellent management staff or the owners who are, more often than not, either in the office or teaching a class. They practice what they preach and know their fitness from top to bottom. (seeklearnshare, )

I love Pure Austin! It is the best gym ever. I have been a member for two years now. I normally go to their quarry lake location. Yoga with Haya on Mondays and Pure Sculpt with Tiziana on Thursdays are my absolute favorites! (svetlanafro80, )

  9. Great Gym
I too am surprised at the negativity of some of these reviews. I too went through the signup process, and read over all of the documents carefully, so I wasn't surprised at the 1 year term or anything else. It's all fairly clearly spelled out on the signup sheets. In any case, I've worked out in several gyms and this one is the best one that I've found hands down in Austin, in terms of ambience, and the type of people that workout there. I totally enjoy working out daily and would recommend this gym to others. In fact, I've signed up several others for it. (lvmusicman79, )

  10. great gym!
I am surprised at the negativity in these reviews. I understand that breaking contracts can be difficult, but that isn't the gym's fault. Read your contract! The equipment is great! I agree on the loudness, but that too can be motivating, as many folks are in the gym getting solid workouts. I have worked with a personal trainer since October and she is great! She is moving on now, but we will definitely look into a new one. My husban and I are extrememly motivated when we walk into Pure. The staff is extremely friendly and the facility is top notch. We have belonged to gyms in the Boston area, and this one measures up to the best. (puglrrc2004, )

  12. Horrible Customer Service
So I signed up for a 3 month membership, liked it, decided to sign up for 1 year. The sales person, or young, inexperienced greeter said I would get a few things for signing up for 1 year. One of them was 50$ on my key card. After a few weeks, there was nothing on my key card and when I asked a "manager" about it she said that because I signed up before I was ineligible for any of those incentives, even though I still payed the same $150 initiation fee a 1st time member would pay. The girl who signed me up also knew I had been a member before because I kept the same key fob and parking sticker. After I told the so called manager that I already got the shirt and tote bag and guest passes, which were by the way all free advertisement for them, she said, well we can't ask for those back. How classless, I've never heard of such horrible customer service. I've given them over $576 in the last 5 months and will have given them well over $1000 when my contract is up. And they can't give me $50 like they said they would when I signed up? Unbelievable!!! They must really be hurting for money, although I don't see how, they are one of the most expensive gyms in Austin. I decided to talk to another manager and he said it wasn't their policy to give incentives to an existing member, and I thought, but it's your policy to lie. I had also brought a friend that day and wanted to treat her to something at the smoothie bar, which obviously I couldn't without any money on my key fob. It was totally embarrassing and the so called manager didn't do anything. A simple gesture of buying us a $5 smoothie would have been better than nothing. I hope the owner reads this and just sees how useless the staff is. Maybe useful to the owner by not owning up to mistakes, but very useless to the clientele. I just moved back to Austin and had higher expectations, but obviously the friendly aspect is nonexistent in some parts. (user1900, )

  14. Horrible policies and service!
I paid roughly $930 in advance for an "executive" membership that lasts for 13 months. Soon after, I got pregnant and Pure Austin offers absolutely no regular prenatal programs, unlike some other gyms and studios in town, such as LifeTime Fitness or Yoga Yoga. I tried in vain to cancel my membership and get some of my money back, but the gym and their billing service wouldn't let me. The gym could not have been less helpful or understanding. DO NOT JOIN PURE AUSTIN if you want any flexibility, or think you may move or need to cancel! THey have TERRIBLE customer service and policies. They also have terrible options for pregnant or postnatal women and don't offer childcare. Join another gym, such as LifeTime! (rsilverm, )

  16. Loud but nice, avoid Mondays
Pure has nice selection of equipment. Good selection of classes. Equipment is well maintained & very clean. Bathrooms and locker rooms are very clean. Gym is too loud. I have to yell to workout partner. The bike classes are open to the rest of the gym. So you have to listen to bike instructor's 70s-80s pop music as you try to work out. Instructors are over-priced, some are worth the price (Paul) others not even close (Rick). (sadiaz, )

  18. Great Gym!
I love it at Pure Austin! I am also a Curves girl and wanted another gym where I could be accepted and treated with respect even though I am not in shape. I also need a place where I could get my cardio in to supplement my Curves workouts. You get what you pay for! When you walk in you are greeted by the staff. They give you towels for your shower and answer any questions you may have. Equipment such as the elliptical machines are open and I don't have to wait to get on them. Classes do not cost extra. It is clean and the overall environment is one of acceptance so this motivates me to workout even more. I feel like a team player on the team of Pure Austin! (emerald_volcano, )

  20. Worst GYM EVER!!!!
This place is terrible!!! I joined when I was working down town and it was ok. I liked the classes. When I relocated to West Austin I wanted to cancel my membership. My contract was over I thought it would be a snap. It wasn't!!!! First they made me call a collection agency . It took an hour on the phone to get them to cancel my membership. They made me pay for a full extra month. That made me unhappy, but I accepted it. THEN... IT TURNS OUT THEY HAD NOT CANCELED MY MEMBERSHIP. THEY CHARGED ME FOR THREE MORE MONTHS. Pure Austin denied any responsibility. The collection agency would not give me a refund either. So... I had to have my credit card company stop payments to them. Which is a pain in the neck. Overall I would not recommend this gym. (picaboanna, )

  22. Quit yer belly achin' and grow the F up.
I'd been looking around at the different Gym options around town and was won over by Pure. The facilities are clean and the atmosphere is great. The variety of classes they offer with the membership is enough to win me over even if I never used any of the machines. Plus the YMCA which is right down the street from Pure I figured would offer a much cheaper membership, To my surprise the Y is almost as much as Pure. I would now like to take issue with the last 2 reviews. The standard document that they gave to me and I assume they give to everyone is a piece of paper called The Membership Menu. On it are 5 different membership options. Power (pay $150.00 up front and go 59 month to month), Executive (Pay $858.00 in one lump sum for 13 month) , Quarry (no initial fee, $69.00 a month, only valid at Quarry lake location), 6 months (525.00 lump sum for 6 months) and 3 months ($325.00 lump sum for 3 months). Right beside the details of the power membership is says 1 YEAR TERM and it is not in small print. Just like cell phone companies it is pretty standard for a gym to make you commit to a certain length of time this gym does not hide that fact. Also on the last page in the binder they give potential customers it lets you know all about ABC financial services and how they will be handling your billing, again this is not in small print. For people that don't want to commit to a year (like myself for example) they offer a very reasonable 3 or 6 month plan in addition to just being able to pay $15.00 each time you go. So come on. You sign up for the year term and than despite all your new years resolutions you realize you are actually to lazy to go to the gym regularly enough to make the money you are spending worth it and then it's obviously not your fault when you want to back out of the legally binding agreement you entered into. Take a little responsibility for your life and grow up. A loyal fan of Pure Austin. And no I don't work for them. (banjobiotic, )

  24. Read the fine print!
I loved Pure Austin when I first joined. Tons of space, lots of machines, no time limit on the cardio equipment. What's not to like? Unfortunely, I needed to change gyms. I went in to cancel my membership in person and I was given a card to a finacial cooporation in Arkansas. I called the number in Arkasas. This is where I found that I could not cancel my membership before one year. I went back to Pure Austin to speak to management the same day. No help there-it was all my fault. He passed my number on to someone else. She promptly called me back. Still my fault. Okay, maybe I was naive. I didn't flip the contract over and read the fine print. My point is NO ONE that worked for Pure Austin made me aware of the simplest and most important issues of the contract. Mainly, that you cannot cancel a membership prior to a one year commitment. Oh, and if you want to freeze your account, think twice. They add that time back onto your contract, meaning they extend it. I also found this out, not by anyone at Pure austin, but by speaking to another Arkansas phone representative. I will take partial blame. I assumed the sales girl was telling me all I needed to know when I sat down to sign the contract. WRONG. But what makes it okay for business to continue to request money for a service no longer wanted? It is not ethical. It is not moral. It is stealing plain and simple. Before you sign your name on that gym contract know all of the nitty gritty. Because that free gym bag you get with your membership may not be so appealing after all. (kariputnam, )
